My opinion is that the convenience of 2nd floor laundry room outweighs the small risk of huge damage that home insurance would pay for anyway.
2nd floor laundry drain pan.
The room is tiled right now.
I have a floating slab and a fench drain in the basement.
My idea was to somehow build a small wall around the washer dryer area maybe a 2x4 and tile it with similar tile.
My second floor laundry room has a pan under the washer connected to a 3 4 pvc pipe that terminates in the basement just below the subfloor of the 1st floor.
If i tie it into the sewer i will need a trap and maybe a trap primer.
We have had our present two story home for 20 years.
We are just about to start construction on a two story house.
But all i see are shower drains either designed for thin shower bases my plywood is 1 1 2 thick so can t tighten the nut on it to hold it securely or else designed for a shower pan with liner.
A drain pan would not have contained it for sure.
I just want a 2 solvent weld drain that can be firmly attached to the floor square would be nice tile wise.
One of the baths is on the second floor.

Several times through the years we have had problems in the second floor bath which caused us to have to.
The drain pan is that something that is put under the floor on the second floor between main floor ceiling and 2nd floor flooring.
I am finishing the basement and want to know the best way to handle this emergency drain.
We bought a newly built home and unfortunately there is no floor drain in the 2nd floor laundry.
