All too often the alternator is condemned as the source of the problem if only battery voltage is present with the engine running.
24v charging system voltage.
Accurate ecm controlled charging is essential to the operation of start stop systems which place.
The peak charging voltage for gel batteries is 2 3 to 2 36 volts per cell and for a 24 volt charger this works out to 27 6 to 28 3 volts which is lower than a wet or agm type battery needs for a full charge.
Place the metal sensor on the end of the red wire from the multimeter onto the positive battery terminal then place the metal sensor on the end of the black wire from the multimeter onto the negative battery terminal.
The system is charging at 26v 200amps but don t seem to be charging very well.
Read the meter display.
Then to charge two batteries in series apply a maximum voltage of 27 6v and a maximum current of 18a.
In a 24 system you have to multiply by two which gives 27 6v.
If connected across the two solenoid posts there will be a reading of 24 volts.
12v car battery charges at 14 16 volts x amps.
An alternator generates electrical energy to supply the vehicle s on board electrical systems and replace the battery charge consumed during cranking.
O ne test is not enough if you are diagnosing a charging system problem.
If it reads 24 volts or similar continue troubleshooting as your battery is fine.
Would this mean that 24v charge should be 28 30 volts x amps.
A stable battery voltage channel a around 28 3 v with no spikes or significant ripples.
If connected between any terminal on the charging system and ground there will be 12 volts.
For example suppose your float voltage is 13 8v and your 1c rate is 18a.
However the battery can be charged also with higher voltages for fast charge which is not implemented in automotive alternator so it should output the float charging voltage.
